Happy Thanksgiving!

Through out the year, there are only certain things I look forward to. NO, not my birthday! Although sometimes that can be pretty fun too! I'm talking about the 4th Of July, my daughters Birthday Bash which includes my wife and my sister-in-law(so you know that's a rockin' party for sure!), Thanksgiving and Christmas! And what's coming up this week? Thanksgiving of coarse!!

Ahh, that time of year where I starve myself the whole day before and part of the day of,
just  to enjoy that wonderful feast! Turkey with all the trimmings! Pumpkin Pie! Oh, man, and sooo much more! Unlike most people though, I'm lucky enough to celebrate it two days in a row! Thursday and Friday! Every year my family takes a trek into the city of Chicago to my sister-in-laws house where my wife's family gathers each year for their Thanksgiving feast which usually includes a couple Turkeys and a ton of delicious side dishes because her family is so big! Then, the next day it's over to my Mom's house where we do it all over again! Well with the exception of one Turkey because my family isn't quite as large as Amy's family is. But the food is still just as wonderful just the same! Now you may ask me how I can eat Turkey two days in a row. Truth be told, I could probably eat it every other day for the rest of my life and not be bothered by it! True, there are some people who just can't deal with it past one day, but I could eat it forever! At any rate, believe it or not, Thanksgiving means much more than just that plump, stuffed bird with all the trimmings. It's about celebrating the things in your life that you are most thankful for! As for myself, I'm thankful for many things! First and foremost, my family! Without Amy and the kids, my life would feel pretty empty. They are the greatest support system that any man could have and I truly am thankful for them all. I'm also thankful to have my Mom and my Step-Dad back in my life. We've been through many trials and tribulations over the years, but we've managed to get it back together and become a family once again. I am truly thankful for them, and grateful to have them back! Then there is my wife's family. These people are wonderful! From day one they accepted my son and I into their  wonderful brood and treated us like family right from the start! That within itself is truly rare this day and age. For them I am both thankful and grateful! Then there are all of my friends! After all, what is any person without great friends! Friends are people that stick by you and do just about anything for you within reason and are people that you'd return that favor for at any given moment. Really, I guess you could say that they are somewhat of an extension of your family. This season, I am enormously grateful to have a job! There are so many out there who are out of work this holiday season, and to them my heart and my prayers go out to all of them in hopes that they all find jobs soon to support their families and themselves. And if your reading this, maybe you too could find it in your heart to pray for them as well. They really could use all the help and support they can get. You never know, one day it could be you who needs the prayers and the help as well.

So there you have it! Everything I'm thankful for this Thanksgiving! As all of you are gathered with your loved ones over the Thanksgiving holiday, think about what you are most thankful for. I'd be willing to bet that once you sat down to do it, it wont take long to come up with a good list of things that you are most thankful for. The most important things are the easiest things to list first. From there, the rest should be cake! Now that I've shared with all of you what I'm most thankful for this Thanksgiving, stop over at my Facebook page and drop me a line on what you are most thankful for! I'd love to hear from you all! HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!!

Our Little Girls, Not So Little Anymore... And Zack Too!

So, got a call from Zack yesterday. He's still doing well down at the HYCA, but he did get himself into a little bit of trouble with his mouth. Seems he let it overload his but one too many times and he got a little extra clean up time added to what he normally has to do. I told him to just chalk it up to experience and move on. He still sounded very good and very positive. I'm proud that he has taken on this "I Can Do Anything" attitude for once. Much better than the old Zack who spent most of his time thinking that he couldn't really do anything! Makes me think that much more that my decision to send him down there was the right thing to do. He's actually taking responsibility for his actions now. This is a good thing! He has also tested very well to be able to start three out of the four GED classes he needs! Yeah! He's struggling a little with Math, but they are working really hard with him on that. Overall, he's doing pretty good down there and we couldn't be more proud!

Someone else we all need to be proud of are the girls! That's right! Last Friday was their first full day of Kindergarten! I had heard from an insider at the school that they had done very well on their first day! I know that they were doing pretty good before Amy and I left them. They have a great Teacher also. Mrs. Zacher has been teaching for the last 12 years at that school and has seen it all. Yet, she's young enough to be able to keep up with Charity and all of her energy! Charity needs someone to be able to keep up with her. Go to my Facebook page, if you haven't already, to see some of the pictures we took of the girls first day! Of coarse we couldn't stay all day. At some point we had to let them enjoy their first day of school without us! We did stay for about twenty minutes to make sure they got settled in good. Then it was time to leave and wait for the little girlies to come home!

OMG! It seemed like forever waiting for them to get home! They took the bus home, which was their first ever bus ride. They loved it! On the way home is the only time they will be taking the ol' "Cheese Wagon" home... unless something happens where they need to ride in the morning. But mornings are reserved for Mommy to take them to school. Besides, them riding the bus to school was never an option. The way the route works, they would have been one of the first group of kids getting picked up which would have made for a very long bus ride to school in the morning. 45 minutes to be exact, as opposed to the short 10 minute ride home because they are one of the first dropped off. So we opted just to have them ride the bus home. They did very well with that also! We are so proud of our little Kindergartners! To celebrate them getting through the first day of school, we had a few surprises planned for them! We had gotten them "The Smurfs Dance Party" game which is made by the people who brought you the "Just Dance" games for Wii and Xbox. They loved it! Plus a bunch of other goodies to help make their first day of school a hit! Overall, the girls really seemed to enjoy their first day and can't wait to get back to school for more! Yup, our little girls are growin' up.

Till next time gang!

Three "Big Girl" Beds In Three Days!

Well the time has finally come for these three little lovelies to graduate from their little girl beds to...(gasp!) to three full twin beds. And as if that's not enough, they are Loft Beds!! We were at first going to opt for a triple bunk bed, but were afraid of Charity falling out of that thing, should she be at the top of it. And you know she would want to be the one up there. So, for the next best thing, we went with three Loft Beds instead.

At first, we thought there would be very little room, if any, in their bedroom with these things in there. They are big beds! Actually, they worked out very well! There is still enough floor space for them to play and move around in. Plus, they have a very cool place under these beds were they can play as well. I took some pictures, so expect some coming up here within the next few paragraphs!

To start out with, these beds were no small undertaking! The first bed took us a little over 5 hours to put together! And that was with both Amy and I doing it together! We started on Friday evening when I got home from work with Faith's bed. The dresser and cabinet that hold the bed off of the flour took what seemed like forever! There were no worded instructions, just diagrams. Friday night was a three hour trek. At this point, we were still able to keep the Toddler beds in the room and the girls were still able to sleep in their own beds. Saturday morning, we got ready for our last Soccer game for the spring season. After the game we celebrated with taking the girls to the Chocolate Shop, which is a little Diner in town with a 50's feel. The girls love it there! They have tons of ice cream flavors and the burgers and hot dogs are fabulous! Yeah, I kinda love it there myself too! Plus, the prices are fair. Perfect for an old fashioned Malt Shop.

After the Chocolate Shop, we took the girls over to Amy's parents house so we could finish work on Faith's bed and I could begin taking out the three Toddler beds. While taking the Toddler beds down, Amy and I both had our moments of losing it emotionally. These Toddler beds started out being their cribs when we brought them home 5 years ago. So it's understandable that we both had our moments of emotional distress while taking out the little beds in exchange for the "Big Girl" beds.

This pic is of Faith arranging her bed the way she wants it. She was ecstatic about her bed!

Charity and Hope arranging their beds too! They are also happy with their beds, can ya tell!?

After the length of time it took us to put Faith's bed together, it took us considerably less time to put the other two beds together! Three hours each! Believe me, this was a major success compared to the brutal 5 hours it took for Faith's bed. The most amazing thing was that all three of these beds fit in the same room together. We've been pretty lucky with that. I remember when I was putting their cribs together, I was wondering then how in the heck we were going to fit three of them in the same room. They fit pretty nicely. These beds were much bigger, so I was really wondering how we were going to pull these off. Once again, we got lucky and all three beds fit with room to spare! After all the hours of hard work put in on these beds, it was all worth it to see the smiles and excitement on all three girls faces once they were all done. Tonight is the first night they are sleeping in their new beds. For the first 30 minutes after putting them to bed, all they could do was talk amongst themselves about how great the beds were and that myself and Mommy did a great job putting them together and so quickly. Hearing them talk about it to each other was worth it alone. Watching them set their beds up tonight was a little more emotional for me. I guess it's all part of me coming to terms with them growing up. What I'm having a problem coming to terms with is how quickly it's happening. It's like I blinked and we went from feeding them bottles and changing diapers to "Big Girl" beds and Soccer practice. Tomorrow they'll be graduating and off to collage. And more tears will flow then too. Our baby girls are growing up and there's nothing we can do about it. Were does the time go? Till next time!

Zack And The Soccer Girls!

Well, this past Thursday was Zack's orientation in Knightstown, IN at the Hoosier Youth ChalleNGe Accademy. Knightstown is a beautiful little town, and I do mean little, about thirty miles East of Indianapolis. The population there can't be more than 800 people, and if you blink while driving through, you'll miss it for sure! HYCA is a state funded camp to help troubled youth in Indiana become better, productive members of society. It is also run by the Indiana National Guard. It was a two hour ride down, and for the three of us... a little scary at first. Zack was scared because he didn't really know what to expect and... Amy and I were scared too, for him though. And yes, because we didn't know what to expect either. Pulling up to the campus, you are viewing some of the most beautiful old buildings ever constructed. It looks almost like a smaller version of Harvard University. Just beautiful! Once inside, it becomes all business. We had some last minute paperwork to fill out and of coarse, I had asked Zack three or four times before the start of the orientation if this was what he wanted. He said yes, so we continued on to the orientation. If your wondering, HYCA only accepts children from the ages of 16 to 18. They can turn 19 while they are there, but not within the first two weeks of the program. And they are very well equipped to handle children who have all kinds of problems! Kids like Zack, Blind kids, you name it, they are very well staffed and equipped to handle them! Knowing this put me a little more at ease with sending Zack down for this. The program runs 18 total months. Six of those months are spent on campus and the other 12 are at home with a Mentor who helps Zack achieve his goals outside of the Academy and reports back to them through out this time. Zack will do all of his studies on the campus and be prepared to get his GED when he arrives back home. After his birthday in January, he will then be eligible to test for it and go to college.

The orientation started right on time and the campus Counselor was the first to speak to us and the kids. The parents all sat in the bleachers, while the kids got the main floor in folding chairs in front of us. There was a screen set up for us to view some pictures of the campus and a video. This gave us somewhat of an idea of what the kids will be learning and doing. To show us what the kids first two weeks would be like, they had one of the Cadre's come out and give us a little insight. This was a very big guy! All full of muscle and very loud! He started out talking to us and the kids in a normal tone. Then within seconds, it was like instant Bootcamp and he was all up in the kids faces! Screaming at them to the top of his lungs! Just like Army Bootcamp! It almost made ME pee myself! And I'm not kidding! Within seconds the Cadre' had these kids doing what he wanted them to do and made them repeat it if they couldn't get it done within his time frame! No kidding! All at once, I started to feel very at ease with all of this and so was Amy. We were even wondering if we could bring one of these guys home with us! This guy got more out of Zack in 10 seconds than we've been able to get out of him in two years! This was the moment that I began to think that this was the right choice for him to make. This was going to be good for him in so many ways. The best part is that Zack was very responsive to it! After the Cadre' was done with his part of the orientation, the kids were off to view the campus and us parents were left behind to tie up some loose ends. They also interviewed Zack for about 20 minutes alone to make sure that he was ready for this. He passed the interview and we were on our way.

Now, they are going to be very strict on these kids. They CAN NOT have their cell phones, MP3 players or access of any kind to the internet. So no emails either or Facebook & MySpace

Now, enough about Zack and on to the little ones! The girls graduated Pre-School Friday night! This is their last year of Pre-School before moving on to Kindergarten this Fall! Yup, I said Kindergarten! Believe me, I've been asking myself for weeks now where the heck the time went! There was a Graduation Ceremony at the Pre-School Friday night, and believe this, Amy's eyes were not the only ones tearing up! All the Grandparents and myself teared up as well! It was official at that moment. Our girls were no longer Toddlers. They are now officially just little girls. Beautiful little girls. The girls will be starting All Day Kindergarten this Fall. I'm not so much worried about what the girls will do with that. I think they will be okay. It's Amy I'm more worried about! For the last 5 years, she's taken them all over. Doctor appointments, Tumbling classes, Music Of Oz classes, Soccer, you name it! All day  Kindergarten means that she will have a whole bunch of free time on her hands! I don't think she'll know what to do at first. But if I know Amy like I do, she will very quickly fill that time and turn it into something productive! She's already discussed a few ideas with me that are very ambitious and I'm behind her 100%. Heck, there might even be a little room for me in those plans to help out a little! I'm as excited as she is about it. What is it you wonder? Well, I'll let that be a surprise for now and leave it up to her to announce it to the world! Things that make you go Hmmm... lol!

Soccer season is over this coming weekend. It's been a wonderful season and Amy and I can't believe that it's almost over already. The kids will now have the Summer off until the Fall when we start back up again towards the end of August. Amy and I will once again be back to Coach. This coming week will be the last practice and this weekend will be the last game for the Spring 2011 season. Amy, Jason and myself have a little something planned after the little Awards Ceremony after the game. We don't want the kids to ever forget how much fun they've had or that we've had with them. I hope they like what we've done for them! Here's to a fun and productive Fall season! Stay tuned for more updates!

Soccer Season Almost Over... Already!!?

Soccer season began officially April 2nd of this year and would you believe it, it's almost over already!! The last game is just a few weeks a way and I'm already anxious to get the Fall season underway! Why you ask? Well that question has a simple answer! I've had a tremendously great time coaching this year! On top of all that, Amy has been a great Assistant Coach! I mean she has really been my right hand throughout the entire season. Our other Assistant, Jason, has been to almost every practice, but has only been able to make one game so far this season do to his job. Amy has more than stepped up to the task of being the additional Assistant. Plus, with her experience in Yoga, team warm-ups during practice and before games have been absolutely smooth and very helpful! She is also full of great ideas for new Drills to run for the little tykes as well. Like I said, having her as our second Assistant this season has really been great! And would you believe that she has had such a great time doing it that she will be coaching with me again in the Fall!? Yup, you read that right! I know, as if she doesn't have enough to do during the day with all of the OT and Speech therapies for the kids plus Doctor visits and running the kids back and forth to Pre-school and Tumbling classes as well. With as full as her plate is day to day, I was even surprised she would have agreed to come back and coach in the Fall. At any rate, I'm glad that she has. It's one of the few things that we get to do with the girls together.

Zack will be doing something amazing as well this Summer! Zack has agreed to go to a 6 month camp down in Knightstown, IN, just thirty miles East of Indianapolis to try and better himself. The name of the camp is called Hoosier Youth ChalleNGe Academy and is completely run by the State and free to Indiana residents. It's main sponsor is the Indiana National Guard. Zack will be away at this camp from July 16th through December 17th. He will be schooled there and taught some very valuable Life Lessons as well as going through a vigorous Anger Management class. Once back from the Academy, Zack will be mentored by a local volunteer for one year to make sure he gets through all of his tasks, including getting his GED and getting set up with a College! As good as this news is, and as happy as I am that he has made the choice to do this, I'm also saddened that he will be MIA from family events for at least 6 months. But that sadness is overcome by the joy that I feel because he has made a choice to start becoming a better person and take control of his life. Something Amy and I have long been waiting for him to do. So, please help us in wishing Zack good luck on his endeavor to becoming everything that he can be and what we all know he can be! He needs all the encouragement we can give him and needs to know that our whole family is there for him and standing beside him all the way on his adventure!

Well, that's about it for now! I'm hoping that once Spring Soccer is finished, I'll have a little more time to update things here. I'll keep you posted!

Soccer And Other Things

Okay, so this is the first post since the first of the year. Hey, I've been busy... okay! These days, seems like it's harder to get on this computer than it's ever been for me. Especially since I have one daughter who is attached to my hip as soon as I walk in the door, and another daughter that gets upset if I'm not paying full attention to her every second. I mean I've either gotta be playing the Wii with them or sitting with them watching whatever movie they want to watch or... well just something! And do I do all these things for them? You bet I do! But there are times when circumstances don't allow for it and then I've got three very upset little girls because I just couldn't do what they wanted me to do with them at that particular moment. Not saying that I wouldn't do it... it just wasn't going to happen when they wanted it to at that time. They may be only four years old, but I'm discovering that they understand some things a lot more than I think they do. What gets hard is every night as we are putting them to bed. Faith, bless her little heart, always asks me the same question: "Daddy, are you staying home tomorrow?". Four days out of the week I have to tell her no. It breaks her little heart when I tell her no to that question. She tries her best to understand that Daddy has to work, and that I have to do it for her and her sisters and the well being of the family. Geez, even I have a hard time understanding that at that time. She doesn't see what it does to me when I have to tell her no. I'd love nothing more than to spend every waking moment with all of them. I mean, who wouldn't want to do that with their kids!? And if you don't... well then maybe you have no business being a parent to begin with.

Last week, I took a vacation day to be with the girls on their Field Trip to Fair Oaks Farms, the next exit down from us. They were ecstatic! And so was I, just to see their faces when I told them that I was going with them! The absolute best feeling in the world when your a parent is to see the reaction they get when you tell them that you're going to do something with them! Now, you may be asking yourself what the big deal is going to this farm. Well, I gotta tell you, unless you've been there, you just wouldn't get it. They have fresh cheese there that they make themselves. Obviously since they have more than 32,000 Milking Cows, not only do they make their own cheese, but they are also able to make their own Ice Cream there too! and man is it delicious! Does nothing for you if your on a diet, but man is it great for an instant party in your mouth and tummy! Plus, the kids get to see how a Dairy Farm functions day to day. Very interesting how they get everything from point "A" to point "B". Those of you interested in taking your little ones to Fair Oaks, you can either look it up on the Internet, or you can PM me on my Facebook page and I'll get you directions. But it is very interesting and educational for the kids. They even get to witness the live birth of a calf. Although this may not be for everyone, they get to witness the miracle of life...well through a Cow's perspective anyway.

This year, I am once again coaching our girls Soccer team! To my surprise, I am Head Coach this year and I'm already discovering how hard that job is and the Season isn't even underway yet! Opening Day is April 2 around here. I'm already losing one kid because him and his brother were supposed to be on the same team. So they are moving him up to his brother's team. Not to mention I have an Assistant Coach who's telling me he may not be able to make all of the practices or games. That would be okay if I had another Assistant with me, but I don't have that luxury this year. He says that he may only make half of them! So... I'm just wondering why this guy volunteered to begin with!? If you can't invest the time for it, why do it?? I understand that because of work schedules, most parents can't do this job. But if you know this ahead of time, why are you doing it?? I just don't understand it. Plus, he says that he's played the game before in school and outside of school! So you'd think that he'd be all into this and want to be there! But he sounded very uninterested when talking to him. Almost like he was being forced into something he really didn't want any part of. UUUGGGHHH! Already this could be a mess! Anyhow, I'll be sure to keep you all posted on how the season is going. If I haven't pulled out ALL of my hair by then! Stay tuned kids, this could prove to be an interesting season!
